Social Media Day 2011 is tomorrow!
In 2010, social media superblog Mashable announced the first annual Social Media Day, “a day to celebrate the revolution of media becoming social.” The event was such a huge success—spawning 600 Meetups in 93 countries with nearly 12,000 attendees andover 30,000 tweets—that it’s making a comeback in 2011.
If you’d like to get involved in the global celebration, you can find a nearby event on theMashable Meetup Everywhere page or use the #smday hashtag on Twitter. But I’d like to talk about something a little more local.
If you’ve been appointed as your organization’s social media advocate, tomorrow’s event is a great opportunity to remind your team just how powerful social media can be. A few ideas you might want to try:
- Remind your sales team of key customers who found you using social media.
- Grab some key performance indicators from Facebook Insights or Klout that track your success over the last year and post the results in the lunchroom.
- Download HubSpot’s 100 AWESOME Marketing Stats, Charts, & Graphs, then jot down some stats on Post-Its and scatter them around the office. (Bonus points if you send your team on a hunt and award a prize for whoever collects the most!)
- So, what are your ideas for commemorating Social Media Day 2011? Let us know in the comments—we’d love to hear from you!
