First, let’s talk about internal sources of blog fodder.
Now, you’ve probably heard that blabbing on and on about yourself (or in your case, your business) is pretty much a kiss of death in the blogosphere, and that’s true. But used in moderation, talking about your organization can be a magic wand of engagement that gives your readers an insider’s view of what makes your organization unique.
A few possibilities to consider:
- Staffing changes: Your blog is the perfect place to welcome new staff members and celebrate promotions. (Make sure to check with the employee first, as some folks may not be comfortable with their names and photos being put “out there.”)
- Industry events: Give readers the inside scoop about your preparations for trade shows, job fairs, conferences, and other high-traffic events. You could even offer a special giveaway at your booth for anyone who mentions a secret password that’s only available on your blog.
- Extracurriculars: Any marathoners on your team? Competitive BBQ-ers? Show dog trainers? Celebrate their accomplishments outside the workplace with a special blog post.
- Community events: Let your readers know about your team’s community activities, whether it’s painting houses in disadvantaged neighborhoods, entering a team in a charity walk-a-thon, or engaging in a little competitive fund-raising for the United Way.
- Hosted events: Appoint a designated photographer for your next open house or customer-appreciation event, then post the pics on your blog to share the fun with those who couldn’t make it.
Speaking of photos, keep in mind that images make any blog post come alive, so keep that digital camera charged and ready.
